Call for Papers - Lisbon Conference

Dear PRME colleagues

EGPA 2022 – Teaching Public Administration

Please see HERE a call for papers for the Teaching Public Administration Permanent Study Group (PSGIX) at EGPA 2022. This conference will take place at the newly re-established institute of public administration (the Instituto Nacional de Administração) in Lisbon, Portugal on 6-9 September.

The Teaching Public Administration PSG have two key themes in the call for papers:

  • Teaching Public Administration for the Sustainable Development Goals – what and how to teach

The 17 SDG's were adopted by UN Member States in 2015 to promote peace and prosperity for people and the planet. Since then the UN have developed a Curriculum on Governance for the Sustainable Development Goals. So far, it seems little progress has been made to integrate the SDG's within public administration education, particularly in comparison to other subject areas such as business management. This also reflects in the PA-publication available about SDG’s in (European) PA programmes. But if we accept that SDG’s need anchoring in the public sector, how do the SDG's best fit within the PA curriculum? What are the best approaches for teaching the SDG's in PA programmes? Are there any particularly useful case studies that can be used to teach SDG's in PA programmes? How best can we integrate the particular SDG's, such as Decent Work and Economic Growth into PA programmes?

  • Covid-19 and teaching public administration – experiences and lessons for the future

COVID-19 measures constantly influence universities in all sorts of manners. Academic teaching was catapulted into the virtual world and thus into a new age, going back to face-to-face to hybrid to online and so on. How did this challenge change both the student and the teacher experience? What does this mean for the work-life balance at universities? How are equality and diversity in teaching challenged in times of crisis, but also established, maintained and secured? And how will these experiences change the academic teaching of the future?
